Henri Masson was a Belgian-born Canadian artist celebrated for his vivid brushwork, bold use of colour, and scenes drawn from everyday life. After immigrating to Ottawa in 1921, Masson trained at the Ottawa Art Association and eventually became a central figure in the city's artistic community. His work often depicted working-class neighborhoods, family life, and musicians.

Painted circa 1975, Dialogue is an interior scene that showcases Masson’s mature style. The composition features two people mid-conversation. Executed in oil on board and measuring 16 x 12 inches, the piece is notable for Masson’s characteristic impasto technique and expressive palette, using thick, gestural brushstrokes. The work is signed in the lower right and is presented in a Marcel frame, which adds historical and aesthetic value, Marcel frames were a preferred choice among Canadian artists of the mid-20th century, prized for their craftsmanship.
