Road Past the Farm, Southern Saskatchewan by Ernest Luthi is a 20 x 28 inch oil on canvas board produced circa 1965 and signed in the bottom right corner. The painting depicts a long country road lined with rolling wheat fields. A blue sky speckled with clouds hangs above and the sun shines down on the rows of golden straw. A quaint country house and barn can be seen on the side of the dirt road, the next house not visible for miles. Luthi uses detailed and precise brush strokes to capture the movement of the grasses in the wind. His use of composition and complimentary colours emphasizes the vastness of both land and sky in the Canadian prairies.
