Silent Shack by Clarence Gagnon is a 4.25 x 4.75 inch gouache on paper that is protected by museum glass. The piece was produced circa 1928 and is signed in the bottom left corner. The small painting depicts a simple wooden shack in the dead of winter. Tall pines surround the tiny structure as it sits nestled on the shores of a lake, sheltering it from the cold and wind. The trees are painted in deep navy that contrasts against the soft yellow background of the piece. Mountains peak through the trees in the distance. A sense of calm and solitude can be felt in the air as the shack looks out over the quiet wilderness, secluded from the rest of the world.
This piece was on display at Galerie Cazeault and Encadrex in Montreal before being added to the Rookleys collection.
