Jazmine Miller
Jazmine Tara Miller’s Beryl Waves is an atmospheric abstract
composition dominated by luminous blues, turquoise, teal, and deep
indigo. Broad, layered passages of colour move across the surface with a
fluid, sweeping rhythm, suggesting the motion of water, shifting
currents, and light filtering through depth.
A radiant central area of white and pale blue creates the impression
of illumination breaking through the surrounding darker tones. Above and
around it, heavier masses of cobalt, blue-green, and near-black lend
the painting a sense of depth and mystery, while the lower portion opens
into softer, more transparent washes. Drips, irregular edges, and
exposed passages of pale ground emphasize the spontaneity of Miller’s
process and reinforce the feeling of movement.
Rather than depicting a specific place, Beryl Waves evokes the
sensation of being immersed in water or witnessing a wave as it gathers,
breaks, and dissolves. The contrast between saturated darkness and
glowing light gives the painting an emotional quality, balancing
turbulence with calm and suggesting emergence, transformation, and
renewal.
