Helen Utsal
Helen Utsal’s Spirit of the Wind looks upward through a stand of trees into a radiant canopy alive with light and movement. Fresh greens, lemon yellows, warm oranges, and touches of crimson gather across the foliage, while the trunks are accented with vivid violets and cool blues, giving the woodland an almost enchanted intensity. The sky is treated as a soft field of pale blush and cream, allowing the treetops to glow as though lit from within.
Rather than presenting the forest in a literal way, Utsal captures its energy and uplift. Loose, expressive brushstrokes make the leaves seem to shimmer and stir, as if a breeze is passing through the branches overhead. The upward view strengthens that feeling of lift and motion, turning the scene into a celebration of light, colour, and the living rhythm of the woods.
