In Wisteria (2022), Canadian artist David Drum captures the elegance of the flowering vine with a luminous palette. The horizontal composition allows for a sweeping depiction of cascading wisteria blooms, painted in tones of violet, green, and white. The piece blends botanical subject matter with Drum’s distinctly expressive style, evoking the quiet vitality of a garden in bloom.
David Drum was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, in 1944 and is currently based in Crystal Beach, Ontario. He studied oil painting from a young age and later worked as a medical illustrator after attending the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. In the 1980s, Drum maintained a studio in New York City before returning to Canada, where he continued to develop a style influenced by Impressionism. His work frequently depicts landscapes from Ontario and Quebec and is included in public and private collections, including the Niagara Parks Commission and St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto.
