Two Hearts in the Time of COVID by David Drum is a 32 x 13 inch mixed media on reverse glass panel that was produced in 2021. The piece is signed and dated on the reverse with Drum inventory #3414. It was created in collaboration with Drum’s wife, Barbara Vance. Using a combination of automotive paint, gold leaf and glitter, the couple work side by side in a spontaneous fashion; unaware of the final outcome until the panels of glass are pressed together. This brightly coloured abstract piece is dominated by rich blues. A red, heart shape at the top of the composition acts as the focal point, drawing the eye in. Gestural linework and gold detail add movement to the piece which comes to Rookleys directly from the artist’s studio in Crystal Beach.
