David Drum, born in 1944, has had a career over decades as a Canadian artist. He began painting as young as 8 years old, and by the time he was 10, his father built him a studio in their basement to give him a designated space to paint everyday.
He describes his approach to the 16 x 20 inch piece as capturing the essence of what he sees rather than the exact image, and that sentiment can clearly be felt when looking at Sunset on the Bench. The Drum employs warm yellow tones in the sky, and deep greens in the undergrowth, makes the viewer feel the essence of watching a sunset looking out at a beautiful landscape.
Painted in oil on archival foamcore in Drum's Crystal Beach Studio, this piece was acquired by Rookleys Canadian Art directly from the artist himself.
