Street Scene, Lachine, Montreal by Rose Wiselberg is a 16 x 20 inch oil on board that was produced in 1948 and is signed and dated in the bottom left corner. The piece is framed by Emmett’s Custom Frames in Toronto.
The painting depicts a stylized streetscape of downtown Montreal. A winding road weaves its way through the composition, drawing the eye into the image. A single figure can be seen strolling the sidewalk which is lined with buildings and small businesses.
Wiselberg uses a soft, limited palette and thin layers of paint to create a whimsical, atmospheric effect. Her use of simple shapes and dry brushing in this piece is very characteristic of her style
