Ogunquit, Maine by Robert Harris is a 5.38 x 8 inch oil on panel that was produced circa 1910. The piece is unsigned by the artist but it comes from the collection of his niece, who verified its authenticity on the reverse of the painting. The painting was also part of the Robert Noakes collection before coming to Rookleys Canadian Art.
Ogunquit, Maine depicts a charming coastal scene. Well-dressed ladies can be seen walking the boardwalk that runs along the water. They are dressed in antiquated clothing, carrying hats and umbrellas. The sky overhead is gloomy, signalling oncoming rain. Harris uses soft brushstrokes and muted colours to create this quaint and nostalgic landscape, taking viewers back to a time long past.
