Old Barn, North of Huntsville by John Angus Palmer is a 10 x 12 inch oil on panel that was produced in 1970. The piece depicts a dilapidated barn in a wooded setting, a bright blue sky shining down upon it. Gold coloured grass surrounds the old shed, contrasting with the sky above. Tall, thin trees with bare branches dissect the foreground of the composition and span into the distance as far as the eye can see. The barn stands alone within the expanse of forest, still and tranquil.
Born in Ontario, John Angus Palmer’s work focused mainly on landscapes. He painted all of the provinces across Canada but had a real love for Northern Ontario.
