Henri Julien Avenue, Montreal by Jack Beder showcases exquisite attention to architectural details and attention to light and shadow.
Henri-Julien Avenue itself is a notable street in Montreal running
through vibrant neighbourhoods like Le Plateau Mont-Royal and
Villeray Saint-Michel Parc Extension. It is home to several landmark and
historical sites, such as Church of the Madonna della Difesa and the
Fusiliers Mont-Royal Armoury.
The bright palette features bold blues, crisp whites, vibrant yellows and warm ochres, capturing the sunlight illuminating the buildings and street. Beder was well-known for his Montreal street scenes, this piece being a great example.
