Oak Tree and Farmhouse by Homer Watson is a 10 x 14.125 in oil on board that was produced circa 1900 and signed in the bottom left corner. The piece is also titled on the reverse. It depicts a white house with a red roof shrouded in the shade of a large oak tree. Watson uses a dramatic contrast between light and dark in this painting, emphasizing the structure and adding a mysterious quality to the scene. The tree, painted in deep shades of green, fills the composition, obscuring the farmhouse and the space beyond.

Watson’s paintings are celebrated for their luminosity and mythic quality, depicting the Canadian countryside with a romantic touch. Oak Tree and Farmhouse demonstrates this incredible skill.
