Storm Approaching by Carl Schaefer, depicts impending rain clouds looming over the grassy slopes of the Canadian prairies. The rolling hills are speckled with fences that lead the eye across the piece. Vibrant earth tones in the foreground are contrasted with the neutral greys of the stormy sky.
Schaefer loved to paint water colour landscapes but also served as an official war artist for Canada in WWII. His other works depict traumatic scenes of war in water colour as well as graphite and ink.
