Bruno Capolongo’s Canadian Sublime (2024) is an homage to the dramatic landscapes of British Columbia, specifically the stretch between Whistler and Vancouver.
The stretch between Whistler and Vancouver, roughly 120 kilometers along Highway 99, also known as the Sea-to-Sky Highway, is one of the most scenic drives in Canada. It travels from the urban edge of Vancouver up through coastal mountains, offering dramatic views of fjords, forests, cliffs, and alpine peaks.
In this composition, a steep cliff rises on the right, balanced thick, rich forested hills on the left. The palette changes from cool blues and bright teals in the foreground water to varying shades of forest and pale green in the trees beyond. Light rippes across the water’s surface, creating a luminous effect that draws the viewer into the scene.
Painted in oil on panel and measuring 12 x 12 inches, the work is signed by the Capolongo on the bottom right, and signed, titled, and dated on the reverse.
